Qualifications & Professional Background
A page dedicated to my qualifications, professional registration and experience.
Professional Qualifications, Registration & Experience
Choosing a counsellor is about more than just qualifications alone, but knowing your therapist is appropriately trained, professionally registered and committed to high standards of practice can provide valuable reassurance.
Alongside my private practice, I continue to invest in my professional development through ongoing training, supervision and continuing professional development (CPD), ensuring my knowledge and skills remain current and evidence informed.
Qualifications
I have undertaken several years of academic and professional training to become a qualified Counselling Psychotherapist.
My qualifications include:
- MSc Counselling & Psychotherapy (Distinction) – University of the West of England (UWE)
- Certificate in Counselling Skills – University of the West of England (UWE)
- BSc (Hons) Psychology – University of the West of England (UWE)
As part of my Master’s training, I completed over 100 hours of personal therapy, extensive supervised clinical practice across multiple placements, regular clinical supervision and an independent qualitative research dissertation.
Professional Registration
I am an Accredited Counselling Psychotherapist and Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. You can find details of my registration on the BACP Register – my registration number is 408298.
For additional professional reassurance, I also maintain:
- Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) registration
- Professional Indemnity Insurance
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certification
- Ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Professional Experience
Alongside my private practice, I have supported clients across a variety of settings and organisations, giving me experience of working with adults facing a broad range of emotional and psychological difficulties.
Private Practice
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, stress, trauma, bereavement, relationship difficulties, addiction and many other life challenges, offering both short and longer-term counselling.
NHS Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
For more than seven years, I worked within NHS CAMHS alongside psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, nurses and other mental health professionals. This experience provided a valuable understanding of multidisciplinary mental health care, safeguarding and the wider mental health system.
Bristol After Stroke
As a counsellor with Bristol After Stroke, I supported clients adjusting to the emotional and psychological impact of stroke, offering structured short-term counselling within their own homes.
Low-Cost Counselling Service
Working within a local low-cost counselling service allowed me to support clients presenting with a wide variety of concerns in both open-ended and longer-term therapy, delivered in person, online and by telephone.
Age UK
For more than eight years, I have volunteered with Age UK, supporting older adults through regular therapeutic conversations and building meaningful, long-term relationships based on trust, consistency and compassion.
Research & Professional Development
As part of my Master’s degree, I completed a qualitative research dissertation using Reflexive Thematic Analysis, exploring how therapists use their own personal experiences within therapeutic practice and how this influences their development as practitioners.
Research forms an important part of my professional identity, and I remain committed to continually developing my knowledge through ongoing CPD, training, clinical supervision and reflective practice.
